This memorial, dedicated to the Merchant Navy and fishermen who lost their lives during WW2 is located opposite the Norwegian Church down in SA1. The sculpture, made from granite and marble was designed by Philip Chatfield.
Edgar Evans Portrait
Edgar Evans, the Polar Explorer, sadly lost his life on Scott's ill-fated expedition to the South Pole in 1912. A local lad, Evans worked as a telegraph messenger boy before joining the Royal Navy (where he first met Scott). His portrait, below, hangs in the Royal Mail Sorting Office in Llansamlet:
